Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you a coach? What are you getting out of it?
Between the ages of 18 and 35, as I was slowly emerging into adulthood, I often felt a lack of guidance in my life. I felt like I had to figure “life” out the hard way, by trial and error, making mistakes and learning from them. I eventually found guidance and life wisdom from many sources and in my mid-thirties my earlier experience turned into a desire to “be-that-guide-that-I-missed-in-my-life” for others. Filling this gap for others gives me a sense of joy and purpose.
Coaching is an unregulated field. How do I know you're a good coach?
Once I knew that I wanted to be a guide for others it took me a long time to decide how I would do so. As I considered various pathways, I began working with a high-profile coach and was impressed by her practical though spiritual approach. So, I thought—If as a coach I can kickstart my clients’ planning and executive powers and simultaneously help them (uphold, encourage, maintain…etc) their personal values, then coaching is for me. I was already (still am) a wisdom seeker leading a highly productive life (I had 15+ years of mentoring small and large groups of non-profit organizations). So, I chose to be certified with the American School of Professional Coaching for their value-based and cognitive-behavioral (positive psychology) approach, intimate and intense one-on-one training (instead of class-room style) and down-to earth (non-flashy) offer. I finished my certification and am currently working toward additional certification from the International Coaching Federation (ICF). However, these certifications are not the most important factor to consider, what matters most is whether or not there is a “click” between coach and client. Therefore, I offer a free 30-minute consultation where you and I can meet each other, talk about process and approach, ask/answer questions and decide if we’d like to work together.
Your website feels very spiritual. What if I am trying to work on more practical things in my life?
I take a very practical and structured approach as a coach. I help my clients focus on what they really want, create a plan to getting there and hold them accountable to it. My MBA, my leadership roles managing teams and multi-million dollar projects for international non-profits and my 8 year marriage have given me strong roots in the day-to-day practical decision-making. Having said that, we cannot separate the practical and the spiritual, as these two aspects of life are interconnected in who we are. So, if I did not include spirituality as part of my coaching offer, I would be missing at least half of life’s equation. I love Thich Naht Han’s anecdote on this topic, a Buddhists perspective on questioning “reality”.
The Novice Monk and his Nose
The Zen master asked the novice monk: “Tell me about your understanding of the Heart Sutra”. The novice joined his palms and replied: “I have understood that all the five skandhas are empty. There are no eyes, no ears, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind. There are no forms, no sounds, no smells, no taste, no touch, and no objects of mind. The eighteen realms of phenomena do not exist; the twelve links of interdependent arising do not exist; and insight and attainment also do not exist.”
“Do you believe this?”
“Yes, I truly believe this.”
“Come closer,” the Zen master instructed the novice monk. As the novice drew near, the Zen master reached out, grabbed his nose, and twisted it hard. In great pain, the novice cried out, “Master! You’re hurting me!”
The Zen master raised his eyebrows questioningly: “But you just said that the nose doesn’t exist. So, if there is no nose, then what’s hurting?”

What are your rates?
Not too low to devalue my work and not too high to break your bank. I typically like discussing rates during the consultation call, but if my rates are a potential deal-breaker you can contact me via the contact form or at lorenzwildcoaching(@)gmail.com for more info beforehand. If we decide to work together, I can offer you a package of three, six or ten sessions (60 minutes per session) with some cost difference as we will do a longer more detailed intake session to kick things off. Then, depending on your needs we may come up with a flexible plan with customized rates.
What languages do you coach in?
I coach in English.
Do you coach online and in person?
Given the nomadic lifestyle of many of my clients, as well as that of my own, I typically meet clients online via ZOOM.
Why do you only offer the Guided Franciscan Pilgrimage to men?
Men have too few opportunities to connect with other men in spaces of trust and openness, to share their fears and insecurities and nurture deeper and more meaningful relationships. While mixed pilgrimages are also great, I only walk once or twice a year with groups so I prioritize men’s groups.
“What we bring to life’s table will be a function of how much of our journey we have made conscious, and how much courage we were able to muster to live it in the real world that life has presented to us.”
